Born in 1928 in Abbazia (Italy at the time, now Croatia), Frank Horvat is probably “the most European of photographers” of his generation. Raised in a time of great conflicts, Horvat drew from the rich cultural universe his strength in mastering several languages, both phonetically and artistically, in a constant attraction towards new ways of seeing, pushing the boundaries of his medium into new creative and surprising directions. This box set brings together the most iconic images by this master of photography and some more intimate shots, spanning over two decades, the 50’s and 60’s. Curated by his personal assistant at the time, this selection offers an insight into Horvat’s unique approach to fashion and reportage where mystery, suspension, humour and visual force merge together. Each print has been handcrafted in the most archival printing technique, combining platinum and palladium in a traditional process to convey the subtleness of the tones in each detail. |
