Kacper Kowalski

Kacper Kowalski – an architect by education, for the past over 20 years has specialised in aerial photography and been a paraglider. His documentary work, most of which has taken place in Poland, has been recognised by World Press Photo (awards in 2009, 2014, 2015), Picture of the Year International (in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 ) and many other juries.

The leitmotiv of his work is the observation – often impossible from the ground level – of nature and the changes it undergoes at the hand of man. This was the subject of the hitherto largest exhibition and photography book of the artist: ”Side Effects” – presented among others at The Curator Gallery in New York, Leica Gallery Warsaw, Photoville Festival in New York, The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography in Moscow and during the Photo Biennial in Columbia.

Kowalski is also involved in creative photography, making variations on the observed reality, and his most recent searches for art led him to the ”OVER” project in which aerial documentary photography is used to convey emotions pertaining to the artist's personal experience. The project has already been exhibited during the Landskrona festival in Sweden, in the Photo12 Gallery in Paris and Anzenberger Gallery in Vienna. A photography book was published by the artist in cooperation with Ania Nałęcka-Milach/Tapir Book Design.
